The theatre is spectacular. the singing was wonderful - and, unusually for opera, the acting was both brilliant and convincing.

Even if I'm Italian this was my first time at the opera. And it was amazing.. The only thing I didn't like to much was the phisical attitude of Rigoletto in the first act: a little to jumpy. But I found everything else really really beautiful!!!

The Scottish Opera production was excellent, with superb performances in the parts of Gilda and Rigoletto. Stage sets were great.

A truly wonderful performance. This company makes magic with pure music, excellent characterisation and simple but totally believable sets. As the final curtain came down I was left longing for more.

This was my first opera and I didn't quite know what to expect. I suspected that it may be over my head and confusing at times and perhaps too long but how wrong I was! I thoroughly enjoyed every minute of it. Having read a brief synopsis of the story I followed the performance quite easily and the subtitles helped also but weren't intrusive. The modern stage setting was wonderful. The music was beautiful and the performances were very good.Of course we were all waiting for "La Donna e Mobile" and when it came we weren't disappointed with what was a splendid rendition of it.Well done to The Scottish Opera. It was my first opera but certainly won't be my last.

The Scottish Opera staging was really good and I would give it 3/4 out of five. The chorus were splendid..outstanding. The staging worked well. Rigoletto himself was excellent. ****
When will we get Glyndebourne on Tour ?

The production was one in which your attention did not wander from the performance. The music was probably more enjoyable than the singing which was generally good. The sound on this occasion was far superior to my last visit to this theatre.

Overall a good production of Rigoletto and Gilda was excellent. It would be helpful if patrons were asked to arrive on time, use the toilets while the opera was not in progress and if the theatre did not sell popcorn for this type of event.

A wonderful performance, with an outstanding Gilda. I'm not sure if the death scene with the mannequin really worked, but overall this was a memorably enjoyable night at the opera.

Excellent performance of one of great operas. The use of modern dress was convincing but possibly it would have been better if time and place had been specified. The stage sets were innovative and the use of mannequins was a nice touch. The lead singers were very good though the substitute Gilda was less convincing in her acting role. All in all avery enjoyable evening in a magnificent theatre(my first visit)

The Grand Canal Theatre is a tour de force and the performance of Scottish Opera's Rigoletto there on Tues 21st June was smashing. We loved the minimalist and slightly sinister air of the sets. The Duke had very good stage presence but maybe was a tad underwhelming in the vocals expecially when it came to the iconic La donna e mobile. Best of all vocally was the chorus. The orchestra souned good to us. Prior to the opening the evening was a little marred by some kind of seat foul up by the theatre (or Ticketmaster?). There certainly were plenty of vacant seats where we were in the Upper Circle. Why did we have to Q up for optional new seats when we holding our electronic ones in our hot little hands???

First time in the theathre. Stunning location. Loved the red lights etc on exiting and views coming down the stairs. Thought entrance to theathre should stand out more in the mass of buildings.Should be more distinctive. One of us didn't like Rigoletto at all, thought it was creepy. Music and lead singers were wonderful.

Orchestra & chorus excellent Gilda improved as the night went on but her clothes were ridiculous, particularly her socks. She was the most unlikely Gilda I ever saw. Rigoletto himself was quite good but the mannequins in Act 1 were far too gimmicky. Average production & overpriced.
