Van made a triumphant return to the Point/O2, and wowed the sell out crowd for almost 2 hours with a scintillating performance of many of his greatest compositions spanning five decades at least. But as always with Van, he's not satisfied to go through the motions of reeling out a 'Best Of.....' type show. No, this was Van the Jazzman, fronting and conducting an amazing array of supremely talented musicians in rearrangments of many classics, indeed catching the majority of the audience on more than one occasion with cleverly disguised intros to some of his more popular numbers. Amazing piano, organ, trombone, trumpet and jazz guitar riffs filled the vast expanse of the O2, yet when Van took it right down, as is his wont, you could hear a pin drop. A line up and performance more at home in a smoke filled Parisian or New York Jazz/Blues Club, yet nobody in the O2 missed a note. A supreme display from Irelands greatest living artiste.
