On Friday 30th July I went to the Odyssey arena Belfast to see Rod Steward. I was a fan of Rod in the 70's but hadn't bought an album or really paid any attention since then.
To say he is amazing is an understatement. His voice is as good as ever and there is no shortage of energy, humour and fun! The backing singers and musicians contributed to give the whole show a sheen of Las Vegas.
The Odyssey is one of the best venues I've ever been to - far superior to the O2 Dublin where you are constantly interrupted by people moving in and out with food and drink. For this reason, I would rather travel to Belfast than see anything in the O2 Dublin. I also thoroughly enjoyed Belfast itself. Its a very relaxed and friendly city. The atmosphere at the concert was electric with everyone singing and dancing from the start. All the people we met, from the hotel staff and taxi drivers to people at the concert, in pubs and the hotel were warm and friendly.
I would definitely go to see Rod again, he struck me as charming and funny, as well as talented. I will also go to the Odyssey again and look forward to my next trip to Belfast.
